Adipex review

Adipex-P, commonly referred to simply as Adipex, is a prescription diet pill from Teva Pharmaceuticals and is the leading brand name of the generic drug phentermine HCl (hydrochloride).

What is Adipex?

Like prescription Phentermine, the generic drug contained in this brand name prescription obesity pill, Adipex diet pills are primarily designed as a short-term treatment for obesity. It helps individual’s lose weight through appetite suppression and by boosting their energy.

Adipex is available in both tablet and capsule form. Each of these pills contains only one active ingredient: 37.5 mg of phentermine HCl.

What is Phentermine HCl?

Phentermine HCl affects certain neurotransmitters in the brain by stimulating the hypothalamus gland. This area of the brain controls the autonomic nervous system, which, among other processes, regulates body temperature, sleep cycles, and appetite. By stimulating this gland, appetite is reduced.

Adipex-P is typically recommended by doctors to patients who have a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher (obese) or who have a BMI of 27 or higher (overweight) and who also have other risk factors such as diabetes, high cholesterol, or high blood pressure. This diet medication is prescribed as a short-term treatment for obesity and is meant to be used in conjunction with a reduced calorie diet and exercise; it is not a substitute for traditional diet and exercise weight loss methods.

Adipex Precautions

One of the major drawbacks when taking this prescription diet pill is users are at risk of several side effects, some of which can be quite severe. However, the more common side effects experienced by users include, but are not necessarily limited to: restlessness, insomnia, dryness of mouth, dizziness, impotence, libido changes, headache, constipation, diarrhea, trouble breathing, increased blood pressure, etc. Furthermore, due to the fact that these pills are similar to amphetamines, they can be addictive if taken for a prolonged period of time.

Adipex is not recommended for people with certain health conditions, such as anyone with a history of cardiovascular disease, who has glaucoma, or who has an overactive thyroid. It is also not recommended for pregnant or nursing women and anyone with a history of drug abuse or other addictions.

Is This Obesity Drug for You?

If you are over the age of 18 and think that you may be a candidate for Adipex and would like to try it, you will need to consult with your medical practitioner, as these diet pills can legally be obtained only though a doctor’s prescription. Furthermore, those who take Adipex-P should have their progress monitored by a doctor throughout the duration of the treatment. At the time this review was written, on the official Teva site for Adipex, coupons for the product were available.

What if Adipex is Not for You?

As you can see, while Adipex can be an important and helpful support drug for obesity patients, it is not appropriate for everyone.  It is meant only for individuals whose extra body weight places their health at risk, and who cannot lose the extra pounds through diet and exercise alone. It is a treatment for the obesity disease. If you are not obese, for instance, if you are overweight, you may still be seeking support in overcoming your weight loss challenges.
