Naturally Thin reviewNaturally Thin is a lifestyle plan and self-help book from author and entrepreneur Bethenny Frankel, who is also an American reality television personality and a talk show host. Frankel is well known for founding Skinnygirl Cocktails and is a successful author of other self-help books that have become New York Times bestsellers.

Frankel’s Naturally Thin plan is based on her ten rules to lose weight and they all follow the same basic concept, which is to eat well but not a lot. In other words, you can still enjoy your favorite foods, but in small amounts.

Frankel also compares diet to a bank account. In her analogy, she says, like a bank account, when it comes to a diet, you need to balance all foods so that you are not overeating too much of any one food. You balance vegetables with sweets and starches with proteins. At times when you do splurge, you follow it with with a calorie “save.” For instance, if you eat a piece of cake, later on you may cut back on the calories by having a salad.

On this plan you will eat a lot of vegetables. Lean protein and whole grains are also encouraged. Frankel recommends that those who follow her plan eat organic foods, vegetables that are locally grown, chicken, beef and whole grains. However, packaged and processed foods should be avoided. That being said, no foods are actually off limits. You can essentially eat what you want as long you limit your portion sizes and opt for healthy foods most of the time.

There are more than 30 different recipes provided in her book. As a word of caution, some of her sample meal plans appear to be quite low in calories and low in nutrition. If you follow her plan as instructed, you may consume less than the healthy daily recommended amount of calories. Eating less than 1,200 calories per day without being supervised by a doctor can be hazardous to your health. Furthermore, Frankel recommends that instead of concentrating on portion sizes that a person should use smaller plates. The problem with this is that you will still need to monitor the number of calories in the foods you eat.

Although the Naturally Thin diet plan has never been studied to determine its effectiveness for weight loss, it is possible to lose weight by controlling portion sizes, balancing foods and limiting calories. However, you will need to have a lot of willpower if you choose to follow this diet and learn to count calories.

Finally, do keep in mind that Frankel is not a health professional. You should consult with your personal healthcare provider before engaging in any diet plan for weight loss.
